Riding in January?

Just got a few questions I was hoping could be answered by the users of this forum.

I was wondering if the trails are rideable in January?
and
Where can a suitable bike be rented from?

I'll be in the area somewhere between January 10 - 31, visiting my brother in Edmonds and my cousin in Bellingham (right opposite Padden, looking straight at Galbraith)

City of Bellingham Parks Board Opening

Hey All:

There are some vacant seats on the Bellingham Parks and Rec Advisory Board if anyone is interested. It's a great way to give back to the community, get an inside look of how decisions are made and be part of the decision process as well.

The meetings are from 7-9am the 2nd Wednesday of the month.

I'm serving on my 3rd term and find it to be a worthwhile venture that goes beyond just advocating for mountain bikes. Bellingham has a great parks system (and staff) and on the board you have the opportunity to make recommendations in a number of areas including land acquisitions, policies, operations etc.

As a sidenote, I'm also the youngest member of the board....and there is a desire to round out the demographics of similar age and/or younger.

DirtBag complete bike 1350

07' white, medium frame Dirtbag. with Marzocchi 66 RC2 w/ ETA front fork. And Roco TSTR w/ 3 way adjust rear spring shock. Hayes 9 disc brakes. Sram x9 rear and Sram x9 front derailur. Revolution White Wheels, with slightly new tires. It can handle everything you throw at it, and because of the upgraded fork and rear shock it can go up hill really well. It also helps that you can raise the seat really high if you need to. Everything works fine, no narhly scratches or dings. Need to sell due to injury. my loss, your gain. I paid a lot for this bike but am willing to let it go for the first $1350 offer I receive. Again, bike is in great shape!

Please pass the word along to your buddies north or south. I'd like to get this off my hands sooner than later. thank you!

Blowdown Report

Well, with the wet conditions and crazy winds the past couple of days, there's bound to be some trees down across the trails/roads. As such, bring a handsaw with ya to get the small stuff (every bit helps) and post up any blowdown locations that require power tools and we'll get to them.

Also, ride with caution folks....nothing worse than barreling into a newly downed tree.

Rake Party!

Can someone please get a rake party going for all the xc arterial routes? The Ridge, Family Fun Center, and Intestine all have over an inch of organic, wheel sucking sludge to suffer through. The ascending xc routes could use some drainage too.

'08 Norco Fluid 3.0 with upgrades!

I got this bike for my girlfriend at the beginning of the summer, and she is ready to move on to a more DH oriented rig, so it's time to let the Fluid go. It has been ridden lightly on XC/AM terrain for one summer. She is the original owner. I have maintained the bike over the summer, and installed some upgraded parts on it as well. The most important upgrade is the fork. The bike originally comes with a Rock Shox Tora, however, it is now stocked with an '08 Fox Float RLC, a massive upgrade. Super light, fully adjustable including high and low speed compression. I just rebuilt the fork with fork with fresh Racetech oil and new dust/oil seals, so it should be good to go for another full season before needing an oil change.

This is a great bike for XC and all mountain riding. It's a super poppy, lively little bike with nice geometry.

FR Crew Build Day - Nov. 22

The FR crew's next build day will be on Sunday, Nov. 22. We'll meet the upper Lake Padden parking area across from Galbraith Ln. starting around 9:45 and rolling out in vehicles shortly after 10.

Fairhaven Bike and Ski Shop will be sponsoring this trail work party and will be providing pastries in the morning, something for lunch, and bevies during the day. We'll be on Mullet doing drainage work, basic maintenance, punching in a couple short reroutes, and maybe adding some berms and pump bumps to speed up the top section. Bring work gloves, boots, and weather appropriate gear. The WMBC will provide tools, but if you have a favorite shovel or rake, bring it. Come on out and help keep Mullet progressing.

DJ Park season work dates

I finally got around to making up a list of dates in accordance with the other work crew dates so that nothing interferes, and has more or less even split of Saturdays and Sundays. As a disclaimer, these dates are subject to change in case, but we will do what we can to stick with the schedule so that anyone interested has dates to look forward to. Remember, the more people who show up, the more work gets done, the more fun we can have in building cool things once the needed work is done!

Nov. 14 Sat.

Dec. 5 Sat.

Jan. 31 Sun.

Feb. 14 and/or 28 Sun.

Mar. 6 and/or 28 Sat./Sun.

Apr. 11 and/or 25 Sun.

May 15 - Sat.

The first work date is this coming weekend and this time I insist on not getting rained out. I want to fine tune some of the drainage (which should not take long) and work on the small doubles line. Meet at 11:00. Tools will be provided.
